KOLKATA: The Presidency University authorities have etched out an informal plan for the institution’s Rajarhat campus. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had laid its foundation stone in February.

According to sources, the second campus will be a vertical one. “Though nothing is final yet, we are toying with the idea of two towers of 25 storeys each. We have mammoth plans with Presidency in its university avatar and that requires a lot of space. We have just been given 10 acres for the second campus, which is too little compared to our dreams,” said Presi VC Anuradha Lohia said. The old campus is on 17 acres.

She has no complaints against the government though. “It is a prime land and very expensive. We have to make best use of it. Two tall towers will help us to accommodate many departments,” she explained.

Two architects the VC is in consultation with are Dulal Mukherjee and Partha Ranjan Das. They are presently involved in restoration of the main building and Baker Laboratories.

A major part of academics involving the degree programmes and research, incubation hubs, libraries, students’ activity centres and ampitheatres for performances will be housed in the new campus.
